A tragic incident rocked the Indian Air Force (IAF) on Tuesday evening as a Jaguar fighter jet crashed during a routine training mission in the desert region of Rajasthan. The crash resulted in the death of both pilots on board, the IAF has officially confirmed.

The aircraft, part of a training sortie, went down near Pokhran in Jaisalmer district at approximately 5:45 PM. According to initial reports, the twin-seat Jaguar aircraft was engaged in a low-altitude training exercise when it suddenly lost control and crashed into an open field.

Despite immediate efforts from local authorities and IAF rescue teams, both pilots were found dead at the crash site. The IAF has identified the deceased as experienced officers with several years of service.

In an official statement, the Indian Air Force said, “We deeply regret the loss of two brave air warriors in the unfortunate crash of a Jaguar aircraft during a training sortie. Our thoughts are with the families of the pilots during this difficult time.”

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. A Court of Inquiry has been ordered to determine the exact reason behind the mishap.

Eyewitnesses in the nearby village reported hearing a loud explosion followed by a plume of smoke rising from the desert. Local villagers rushed to the spot but were unable to do much due to the intensity of the fire.

The Jaguar is a deep penetration strike aircraft used by the IAF for ground attack missions. Though considered reliable, the aging fleet has seen multiple crashes in recent years, raising concerns about maintenance and upgradation.

Defense analysts and former air force personnel expressed their condolences on social media and called for a renewed focus on pilot safety and aircraft modernization.

As the nation mourns the loss of two dedicated officers, tributes have poured in from across the country, honoring their service and sacrifice.
